The MDDS is a meteorological monitoring system designed by Omnitech Electronics for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax Class ships. The MDDS measures air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and seawater temperature. This measured data, and other calculated meteorological data, are distributed to various shipboard systems using a connection from the MDDS to the ship’s METS computer. The system software applies bias corrections to wind data and calculates the true and relative wind values. Data is reformatted and transmitted to the ship's METS computer and an external NMEA-0183 output port. A front panel LCD and keypad allow for system calibration and configuration.
