Custom Electronics and Product Design

Product design with custom electronics is the core of Omnitech Electronics' engineering services business. We have manufactured electronic assemblies for more than 750 specialized products. We deliver complete solutions to a wide range of research, government, defence, and industrial clients. We will work with clients to define the best possible solution optimized for both the intended task and the client's budget. Omnitech Electronics can provide complete custom systems, modifications to existing products or complementary components for your existing or new designs.

Prototyping, Design, and Review

Whether you have a concept, existing product, or are looking for a partner for a larger RFP, we can assist. Our engineering team has extensive experience with precision measurement systems, high-density digital circuits, high-reliability electronics, ultra low-power processing and much more. With all custom designs, we can arrange IP and knowledge transfers; production and test assistance; regulatory, safety and compliance testing; full technical and user documentations.

Form-Fit-Functional Equipment

Form, Fit and Functional (FFF) replacement products are designed to replace and/or improve an existing product as a drop-in replacement when the original product is no longer available and/or no longer meets updated requirements, safety standards or performance specifications.

Governments, Defence Organizations and Industries with large investments in infrastructure and assets often service and maintain equipment beyond the original manufacturer’s product life cycle. In some cases the product's original manufacturer no longer supports the product or no longer exists. In other cases, components used in the original designs are no longer available and replacement products cannot be made to the original design.

For Omnitech Electronics' FFF design service, our engineers will design a new product that carefully matches the form and function of the original. The new design is guaranteed to function as a drop-in replacement without modifications to existing infrastructure or interface electronics. In many cases, Omnitech Electronics can add improvements to function, features and reliability over the original with little impact on unit cost.

Omnitech Electronics has provided FFF products for the Halifax Class Frigates, the Victoria Class Submarines, and others. We have experience with a wide variety of equipment interfaces, quality control, test and manufacturing standards.

Software Development

Omnitech Electronics has completed dozens of software design and development packages for a variety of customers and as applications for our own products. Our software design services are offered on flexible terms intended to match the requirements of each client.

Omnitech Electronics' developers work efficiently in several software development platforms and often adapt the software to match a development language, platform, IDE and/or operating system of the client's choice. Our standard languages, development environments, and operating systems include C, C++, Qt, Python, Rust, RISC assembly, Verilog, Linux, FreeRTOS, Windows, and more.

Systems Engineering

As a subcontractor to Tier-1, 2 and 3 defence contractors, Omnitech Electronics is accustomed to the process and stages of engineering complex systems. Our systems engineers can manage projects from requirements gathering through to integrated logistics and support. We follow the V-model of systems engineering and work closely with partners to develop comprehensive acceptance tests plans, failure mode and effects analysis reports, reliability and maintenance manuals, configuration management plans and other tools as required.
