Omnitech Electronics' Acoustic Surveillance Arrays continue to operate, four years after deployment, underwater and under-the-ice in Canada’s famous Northwest Passage. The arrays were developed for Defense Research and Development Canada as part of the Northern Watch Technology Demonstrator Program. Two arrays were deployed ~10 km into the sea from the DRDC research camp at Gascoyne Inlet on Devon Island. Each array has 48 passive hydrophones in nested, low-frequency apertures and are tethered to, and powered from a shore station.
Omnitech Electronics delivers updated and improved ship position tracking systems for use at Canada’s Degaussing Ranges. The ranges measure and calibrate the magnetic signatures of RCN vessels. Knowing the accurate position, heading and velocity of the vessels improves the measurements and operation of the range. To gather this position data, range operators install Omnitech Electronics’ system on the bow and stern of the vessel-on-range. The system reports the position of the vessel to operators onshore where the data is used to align the ship position with the positions of the underwater range sensors. [ More ... ]
Omnitech Electronics delivers 100 High-Voltage EMC Filter modules to the Royal Canadian Navy. The HVFM-2516 is a power supply transient filter which provides excellent suppression in the 10 kHz - 200 kHz range typical of switched power seen in submarine applications. The filters have an input voltage range to 750 VDC and were originally designed by Omnitech Electronics as a form-fit-functional replacement for OEM modules used in Victoria Class Submarines.
General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada has selected Omnitech Electronics Inc. to provide sonar receivers and TORSIC hydrophone arrays for the Underwater Warfare Suite Upgrade (UWSU) Project. UWSU will provide the RCN with an improved ability to detect and track underwater threats. The upgrade will ensure that the Halifax Class Frigates are well equipped for future underwater search operations and will help protect sailors from quieter submarines and other threats.
Omnitech Electronics will design and manufacture the Acoustic Receiver Units for the hull mounted sonars and supply the TORSIC sub-system hydrophones. Omnitech Electronics has selected Sensor Technology Limited (Dartmouth, NS) to provide hydrophones for the TORSIC subsystem and are pleased to join the team of companies contributing to this high-value Canadian project.
Omnitech Electronics will be exhibiting at Undersea Defence Technology 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden (booth C41) from May 13-15.
Omnitech Electronics will be displaying: digital acoustic surveillance arrays (portable light-weight, and deep-water versions); underwater magnetic and electric field signature measurement ranges (fixed and portable), fully instrumented exercise mines - to train mine clearance divers or monitor signatures from mine hunting ROVs, and form-fit-functional replacements for submarine legacy displays. If you would like to schedule a meeting during or after the show, please contact us.
